Description
This plugin is an add-on for the WPML multilingual framework. It handles the texts that sit outside normal posts and pages, such as theme labels, plugin strings, widget titles, and admin interface text. Strings are picked up automatically as the site is used, and you can also translate, edit, and export them yourself.
Key Features
- Automatic string registration – New strings output by themes or plugins are registered automatically as they appear, then picked up in the next translation pass.
- Strings tab control – The Strings tab lists every registered string with a column per language, and you can filter by domain or status, search by text, and translate manually.
- Edit translations – You can override what an automatic translation engine produced for any string.
- Manage source language – If a theme or plugin was written in a language other than English, you can change the source language for selected strings or a whole text domain.
- Set translation priorities – You can give higher priority to strings that visitors see most often.
- Track string location – WPML can show where on the site a given string appears, which helps when you cannot tell which page it belongs to.
- Admin Texts Translation – A separate scanner finds strings in admin screens that visitors never see, such as settings labels and widget configuration text, and adds them to the Strings tab.
- PO file import and export – The Import / export po utility produces a .po file of registered strings for external translators or translation memory tools, and merges translated files back in.
Who Is It For
This add-on is for site owners and developers running WPML who need to translate interface text rather than just posts and pages. It suits anyone dealing with theme labels, plugin strings, widget titles, or admin screens in more than one language.
