Description
WooCommerce EU VAT Number is a tax extension that adds a VAT number field to your checkout and checks it against the European Commission's VIES system. Valid numbers can remove VAT for eligible EU businesses, and the plugin also helps with EU VAT requirements for digital products.
Key Features
- VAT number collection – A field at checkout lets customers enter their EU VAT number, and you can change its label and description.
- VIES validation – Numbers are checked against the European Commission's VIES system so you can confirm they are genuine before an order is placed.
- Automatic VAT exemption – When a number validates successfully, the VAT charge can be removed automatically for that eligible business.
- B2B transaction mode – An "Enable B2B Transactions" setting can require every customer to enter a VAT number at checkout.
- Failed validation handling – You choose whether a failed number rejects the order, accepts it without removing VAT, or accepts it and removes VAT.
- EU-only field display – Shoppers outside the EU do not see the VAT fields, keeping the checkout relevant for those buyers.
- Digital goods location checks – For B2C digital sales, the customer's IP address can be checked against their billing country, with self-declared location evidence stored on the order when they differ.
- EU VAT reports – Two tax reports, an EC Sales List and an EU VAT by State report, group order amounts and collected taxes by country, with preset quarterly ranges.
Who Is It For
This extension suits WooCommerce stores that sell to EU-based businesses or sell digital goods to EU customers and need to collect, validate, and record VAT numbers at checkout. It is especially useful for B2B stores that want to apply reverse-charge style VAT exemptions automatically.
